so saturday i was cleaning some things in my yard…with sandals on…(sandals?)…yes sandals (i wasn’t expecting to clean up things…i just happened to see one thing in the yard…then the one thing turned into a couple of things…and so on)
i ended up picking up a metal rod of some sort…and it fell and landed on my big toe…
no big deal…
but then i started to get worried…for one thing it made a good size cut on my toe…(only needed one band aid though)…but it was also rusty…
now all I’ve heard growing up is “if you cut yourself with anything rusty you need to get a tetanus shot!â€â€¦but is that true?…I mean what are the odds I’m going to lose my toe?
are there any medical peeps that read this thing?
need some free medical advice!
as the daughter of a nurse… go get the shot. no harm in being safe.
i don’t know, but if your toe comes off i recommend keeping it and preserving it somehow.
you should have had one when you went over seas…
Why didn’t you tell me about this Sunday? I could have looked at it. I know I’m not a nurse or doctor but I am your mom.
if you’ve had a tetanus shot within the last seven years or something like that, then you don’t need another one. and as someone above mentioned, if you went overseas, you would’ve gotten one unless you’d already had one in the past seven years. now i’m just going in circles.
oh…well sweet…im good then!
at first glance, i thought your categories were “Life” and “Metal”
Yikes: I had a roomate that literally almost died from a tetanus shot. Apparently a small percentage of the population reacts violently to the shots.
And when I had my last over 10 years ago, my arm was in excruciating pain for days, with pain that lasted over a year later and to this day occasionally flares up.
Did some research, and correct me if I’m wrong, but tetanus grows primarily in southern states (Alabama, Missisippi, etc.) in moist soil.
I’m not sure much is going to grow on a dry rusty nail though.
